How AI can make your next ER visit less stressful

FOX News

Emergency departments have been experiencing a significant strain for a long time, with visits only increasing. With the rise in flu, COVID-19 and RSV cases, in addition to an increase in psychiatric symptoms, emergency wait times can be agonizing. A place that is supposed to be known for its immediate access to care has instead become known for its stressful and harrowing delays. Even with the holiday season behind us – a time that is typically known for longer wait times – we're seeing a trend that these wait times are getting worse in general. For patients seeking urgent care, these delays can be excruciating, causing unnecessary anxiety and potentially worsening their health conditions.

K-12 staffing shortages threaten reading instruction–AI can help

#artificialintelligence

The challenges facing K-12 leaders as they start the new school year are enormous. For instance, the latest test results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) show that fourth graders' average reading skills have dropped by five points on a 500-point scale since the start of the pandemic--the biggest decline in more than 30 years. This isn't surprising news, as educators know their students are behind where they should be in terms of basic literacy skills. These skills underpin all other skills that students learn in school; if children can't read well, then their entire education is at risk. Making up this lost ground while continuing to ensure that students learn grade-level skills is hard enough.

Rev Cycle Staffing Woes? Try Adding Automation

#artificialintelligence

Technology has started to play an even bigger role in the revenue cycle as staffing shortages seem to have hit a high. To this point, more than 57% of health systems and hospitals have more than 100 open roles to fill, with one in four finance leaders needing to hire more than 20-plus employees to fully staff their revenue cycle departments, according to a recent survey. Automation has been a clear solution to not only alleviating staffing issues in revenue cycle but making the administrative process more efficient overall. While, according to survey, the use of automation in revenue cycle operations increased in 2021 from 66% to 78%, there remains a demand for further implementation to relieve the burden on staff. In fact, one recent revenue cycle leader HealthLeaders spoke to about its automation journey was Jamie Davis, executive director of revenue cycle management at Banner Health.

Combatting the Clinician Shortage Through Robotic Process Automation

#artificialintelligence

Healthcare systems contain multiple burdensome tasks and strict regulations that require a substantial amount of resource allocation. This inefficiency can lead to high costs of operations, and slow processes, especially when it comes to credentialing, onboarding and deploying clinician workforces. The pandemic, coupled with an aging population with increasing numbers of people with chronic, long-term conditions, has created a perfect storm to disrupt the healthcare market. In fact, the U.S. could face a shortage of up to 124,000 physicians by 2034, which means the supply and demand gap between patients and clinicians is continuing to widen. In an industry that is already facing staffing shortages and supply chain problems, how do we combat this issue?

Accelerate AI-Voice to End the 911 Phone Line Staffing Crisis - Coruzant Technologies

#artificialintelligence

AI, not humans, should immediately screen 911 calls. There are too many stories like this one about a 3-month-old baby who died in Florida. The baby's parents frantically called 911 on New Year's Day when their baby stopped breathing and turned blue. Staffing 911 and 311 phone lines is a critical challenge, especially since the pandemic. We have all read how people have left jobs in droves in the "Great Resignation." Most of the jobs changing have been a Great Reallocation of the workforce to positions with more meaning.

How AI is helping to Address Staffing Shortages in Healthcare

#artificialintelligence

Over the last two years, staffing shortages in healthcare have impacted many hospital and healthcare facility business operations, especially during emergency events like COVID-19. A resourceful approach is overdue, and artificial intelligence might have a part in ensuring the continuity of patient care and security by using various AI tools. For the past two years, the whole world is facing a harsh time due to Covid-19 and most of its effect comes on the healthcare industry. Doctors and healthcare frontlines are working never-ending shifts because the no. of patients is rising day by day which makes them also think about their career once in their lifetime. Many highly skilled healthcare professionals, who tend to be older, are choosing to retire rather than face the Covid-19 associated risks of working in a hospital.

Can Artificial Intelligence Help With 911 Staff Shortages?

#artificialintelligence

Large cities in California, Oregon and Texas are looking to artificial intelligence to combat call center staffing shortages and a backlog of resident calls. The ongoing U.S. staffing crisis has impacted the workforce across many organizations in what has been dubbed the "Great Resignation." No sector seems immune; 911 centers have been facing severe shortages that are causing both mistakes and delays in some areas. Some call centers, however, see AI as a way to bridge the gap between callers and the services they seek. AUSTIN, TEXAS: AI IN DISCUSSION For the Austin Police Department (APD), the staffing shortage started in late 2019, but the issue worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to APD Lt. Kenneth Murphy.

Austin Police turn to artificial intelligence to help with 311 call backlog after defunding

FOX News

Staffing shortages within the Austin Police Department continues to cause long wait times for customers calling for emergency help prompting the department to turn to artificial intelligence for help at call centers. "I called 311 the other day and hung up, because I could no longer wait on hold," KXAN reporter Britt Moreno tweeted Tuesday. "Apparently even 911 is short staffed. There are 15 police dispatcher vacancies and 31, 911 operator vacancies!" Staffing shortages since the Austin City Council stripped the police of 30% of its funding in 2020 forced police to no longer respond to non-emergency calls and has caused significant wait times for those calling both 911 and the non-emergency 311 line.
